Saving One Heart at a Time: Can You Help?

Lincoln, the handsome 3-year-old shiny black lab mix pup pictured, was pulled into the Friends of

the Animals Baton Rouge (FOTABR) foster program from a local shelter. Unfortunately, like many

dogs in shelters, he was heartworm positive. Thanks to FOTABR, Lincoln found a wonderful new

family and completed heartworm treatment!

FOTABR provided pre- and post-treatment medication, transportation to and from our vet, plus

experienced support for Lincoln and his family. His new family did their part by providing a loving

home, crate rest and restricted activity during 60 days of treatment.

Last year, we provided heartworm treatment for 89 pups at no cost to their new families. Like

Lincoln, those dogs each got a chance for a healthy life in a loving home. Our hope is to continue

treating every dog adopted at our FOTABR Adoption House. The total cost for treatment in 2023

was over $32,000. Unfortunately, that exceeded the grants from foundations and charitable

organizations we received. We are asking for YOUR financial support to ensure that we can

continue this important medical treatment program that is “Saving One Heart at a Time.”

Our adopters love their new furry family members with ALL of their hearts. Your contribution will

allow their pups to love them back with ALL of their hearts! Please consider making a tax-

deductible donation from your heart to continue this worthwhile program.

FOTABR began in January of 2010 as a non-profit 501(c)(3). The dogs taken into the FOTA program

are from local shelters. We found homes for over 7,500 dogs since our founding, and our goal is

to get at least 350 more pups adopted this year. Heartworm treatment is an important part of our

mission.

Our dogs need your help! Approximately 25% of the dogs adopted through our program are

heartworm positive. FOTABR is committed not only to finding loving forever homes for every dog,

but also paying for the heartworm treatment needed for each dog to lead a healthy,

heartworm-free life.

If you would like to contribute to our lifesaving efforts during this “Saving One Heart at a Time”

campaign, it’s easy! Donate with Venmo at @FOTA_BR or give online at: https://fotabr.org/donate

Only with gifts from generous supporters like you are we able to treat heartworm positive

dogs like sweet Lincoln.

From our heart to yours—thank you!
